In a statement published on its official website, Adidas has confirmed a data breach involving customer information accessed by an “unauthorised external party.” The sportswear giant clarified that the incident occurred not within its own systems, but through a third-party customer service provider.
According to Adidas, the exposed information may include:
-
Full names
-
Email addresses
-
Phone numbers
-
Dates of birth
-
Postal addresses
While the exact number of affected customers has not been disclosed, the breach raises concerns among those who may now be targeted by cybercriminals armed with personal contact details.
This is not the first cybersecurity issue Adidas has faced this month. As reported by Bleeping Computer, the company previously confirmed that customers in Turkey and South Korea had their contact details compromised after contacting the company’s customer service centers.
Adidas has also notified authorities about that earlier breach and is in the process of informing affected individuals.
Cybersecurity experts warn customers to remain on high alert for phishing scams posing as official Adidas communication. “Be cautious of any unexpected emails claiming to be from Adidas, especially those offering refunds, discounts, or asking for additional information,” advised one industry analyst. “Bad actors often exploit breaches like this by sending fraudulent emails that appear legitimate.”
Consumers are urged not to click on suspicious links or share personal information via email. Instead, they should report any questionable communications directly to Adidas through official channels.
For now, customers who have previously interacted with Adidas customer service are advised to stay vigilant and monitor their inboxes closely.
